Game publisher Activision has officially confirmed that the next game in the Call of Duty Black Ops series will be released later this year for major platforms Sony Playstation 4, Microsoft Xbox One and Microsoft Windows PC.
Activision has confirmed that CoD Black Ops 4 is in development and has stated an official release date of 12 October 2018, which seems unusual since Call of Duty game typically release in November. The CoD Black Ops 4 unusual release date could be an effort to try and shift units before the release date of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2, which is also slated for an October release.
CoD Black Ops 4 is being developed by usual game studio Treyarch, a studio which has developed all of the Call of Duty Black Ops games in the series.
Apart from this tid-bit of information, Activision is keeping tight-lipped about the game but we should expect the usual drip feed of information in Spring and Summer as game conferences and trade shows such Game Developer’s Conference and E3 take place, which typically shows exclusive trailers for AAA titles.
Note: there is an official Activision event being held on 17 May 2018 where the game is to be officially revealed.
Call of Duty Black Ops series is among the best-selling games ever made with the three releases having combined sales of approximately 80 million units and grossing well in the billions of dollars and the current Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: WWII, having been released in November 2016 is currently still a best-seller across PS4, Xbox One and PC and continues to do very well in the game charts.
