E3 2018 doesn’t officially kick off their presentations until the Sony press conference on Sunday however EA Play was presented last night. Welcome to Part 1 of ChartX Games’ E3 coverage and kicking things off is our E3 2018 EA Play breakdown. Here are the highlights of the event which has unofficially kicked of the E3 2018 event.

Battlefield V this time around is set during World War II and centers around stories inspired by real life events of different people involved in the conflict and from differing perspectives.
Touted as “The deepest and most immersive Battlefield yet” – Oskar Gabrielson, EA Play 2018, the next incarnation of the super popular war franchise continues its rich heritage of brilliantly detailed story modes and unbeatable multiplayer action.
Some new and improved features include:

Big news for sports fans at this year’s E3 2018 EA Play as FIFA 19 was showcased.
Aaron McHardy, Executive Producer for FIFA announced new gameplay improvements which allow for greater control and accuracy in-game, but the big announcement was that EA Sports has secured the rights to include a UEFA Champions League mode in the next FIFA instalment.
This new mode will include fully licensed and authentic Champions League content which is available in either career mode with yourself or as Alex Hunter in story mode.
Another surprise announcement was that right now you can get a FIFA 18 World Cup DLC across all platforms.
The World Cup mode is also available absolutely free for a limited along with the whole FIFA 18 game for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The title will be launched inQ4 2019.
Star Wars: Battlefront II
This year’s E3 2018 EA Play announced a lot of new updates for Star Wars: Battlefront II.
- Gameplay improvements include:
- Overhauled progression system
- Squad system for co-op play
There are also two new game modes coming this Summer; Hunter Mode which allows Ewok hunting on Endor and a new update as a movie tie-in for Solo: A Star Wars Story called Solo which presents characters from the movie in a new Extraction Mode game system. We can also expect some galactic dog-fighting in Starship Mode, a new starship battle game mode.
Also coming later in the year it was announced we will have a new multiplayer sandbox system which is to include new game modes for taking command posts and capital ships and the addition of game modes to include The Clone Wars. This new Clone Wars game mode will include Geonosis as a playable map, the largest ever created for Battlefront and will also include favourite characters from The Clone Wars such as General Grievous, Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi.
Electronic Arts’ Brand New IP – Anthem
Definitely the highlight of E3 2018 EA Play was brand new game series Anthem which looks set to change the way some games are made forever. Seriously, it looks amazing.
Anthem comes from BioWare and the same team behind critically acclaimed game series Mass Effect. Set in a shared world experience, players must combat The Dominion who have developed a way to harness the power of The Anthem of Creation, the force of nature which pushes back against “The Tools” left behind by “The Gods” as they were reshaping the planet.
This never ending battle between technology and nature is causing chaos on the planet making it extremely dangerous to navigate and/or inhabit. To combat this we must traverse the world in exoskeleton mech suits called Javelins.
Javelins come in different shapes and sizes depending on your play style or for the task at hand.
The game features air, land and underwater based combat and is designed to be enjoyed with multiplayer although this is optional and can still be enjoyed solo.
All Javelin suits are highly customisable in terms of load out, colours/pattern/liveries and even the Javelin’s geometry.
Anthem has been designed so that the developers can keep adding content to the game in a perpetual story mode and there are to be no loot boxes but will feature vanity items which can be purchased.
Anthem is set for release on 22 February 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
Other Showcased Titles
This year’s E3 2018 EA Play Event showcased some other titles which may be worth mentioning.
- Unravel 2, sequel to hit indie game Unravel which is out now.
- Sea of Solitude, an upcoming indie narrative driven title.
- Command & Conquer: Rivals, which is out now for mobile devices.
E3 2018 Electronic Arts EA Play Final Thoughts
A good showcase from Electronic Arts at E3 2018 EA Play this year which highlighted some great new content coming soon such as new modes for Star Wars: Battlefront II and a new World Cup mode for FIFA 18. Although there were some exciting developments shared, I feel that the showcase could have been better; there were no real details about Battlefield V or FIFA 19 and to announce a new Star Wars game without any specific details or even a screenshot was plain mean.
The star of the show was undoubtedly Anthem which was showcased for a specific amount of time which was strange given it isn’t released until next year. However, that being said we did get to a lot of gameplay for Anthem and the team did release quite a bit of detail surrounding the story of the game and some upcoming features we can expect.
I personally would have liked to have seen some more of Star Wars: Battlefront II’s new modes and some more information about Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order as well as possibly some information on future The Sims 4 expansions or details about The Sims 4: Seasons.
