It’s been a long time coming but an array of Fortnite cars have finally arrived, along with radio stations, gas stations and new Aquaman features.
According to the latest officially released patch notes, Update 13.40 is set to go live today and adds a multitude of new features to the popular online game.
Titled “Joy Ride“, the latest update adds multiple civilian type vehicles coming in all shapes and sizes.
Cars and trucks have all but been confirmed at this point and leakers have already released images of some upcoming content.
While vehicles such as planes, helicopters and hoverboards have always been present in Fortnite, this update marks the first time that more realistic cars are to be available.
This makes one wonder what Epic Games has in store for this update.
Perhaps racing may be included as well as being able to just zip around in your favorite type of vehicle.
Four vehicle types are known to be included.
The Whiplash, Prevalent, Mudflap and the O.G Bear are all vehicle archetypes such as an ’80s supercar, a sedan, a big rig and a pickup truck respectively.

It has recently been suggested that police cars were supposed to be included but have been removed.
This could be that Epic hasn’t gotten around to implementing a new game mode that was meant to be bundled with the update.

It could also be that given the events currently going on in the United States that they may have thought it would be in bad taste for the time being.
As well as the new cars, there are also some accompanying game features such as Gas Stations for refueling.

As the current season’s game world has been water-logged, it has been impossible to implement cars.
However, the flood is slowly subsiding revealing more and more of the game map with each update.
The flooded world has meant that iconic superhero Aquaman has been included in the current season.
The draining world has now revealed Aquaman’s Coral Castle as a playable area of interest in the North-West area of the map.

Another huge feature is the addition of radio stations.
How these will work and exactly what they will play remains a mystery but given Epic Games’ recent collaborations with big-name artists, it’s safe to assume that there will be some well-known tunes.

Perhaps they may work like GTA’s radio stations and feature genres such as Pop, EDM, indie and ’80s music.
Radio stations have also been rumored for some time, as have drive-in movie theaters, which could be close due to the recently added vehicles.

The inevitable new Limited Time Modes and Party Royale have also been confirmed.
Party Royale will reportedly be hosting more live music and talk shows as the season progresses.
Japanese musician Kenshi Yonezu has already been confirmed as an upcoming live performance.

Love your site. It’s a typical gaming thing and i love the look. Great content too.
Love,

Hi Aparna.
Thanks for the nice comments.
I have tried hard to get the right look for the site and it’s been a labor of love with a lot of trial and error.
I’m glad you like it.
Thanks,
Michael.
I’m beginning to think Fortnite is more than just a battle royale game with all these things that it’s been doing. I’ve never been interested in the game because of that. With this latest update and the concert, it seems like Fortnite is a virtual world where people can gather together and have fun with friends, something more than just a battle royale.
Thanks for the info, I might actually see what Fortnite is about, doesn’t seem like the game I thought it was.
Hey.
Fortnite is indeed beginning to shape itself into a more social environment, maybe in an attempt to cut out some of the toxicity that has plagued the game for a while now.
Epic Games does a great job of keeping content fresh and new with many crazy items and events.
Cheers,
Michael.
The addition of radio stations sounds really cool, but I’m not sure whether they would cater for my tastes directly. I listen mainly to drum and bass which I don’t think has ever really been that popular in the USA – would I be right in assuming that they mainly aim the selections at the American market, or does a British team also have input on this?
You can’t please everyone when it comes to music and Epic Games will know that. They appear to have stuck to the most popular artists and songs right now:
Sunflower — Post Malone, Swae Lee
Be Kind — Marshmello, Halsey
Stuck with U — Ariana Grande
Don’t Start Now — Dua Lipa
Lucid Dreams — Juice WRLD
A Lot — 21 Savage and J. Cole
Toosie Slide — Drake
I Don’t Care — Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber
Heartless — The Weeknd
Rain on Me — Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande
I Like It — Cardi B
Rolex — Ayo & Teo
Drip too Hard — Lil Baby x Gunna
Blinding Lights — The Weeknd
High Hopes — Panic! at the Disco
Friends — Marshmello, Anne Marie
Shape of You — Ed Sheeran
Yo Perreo Sola — Bad Bunnny
God’s Plan — Drake
Dance Monkey — Tones and I
So no drum and bass I’m afraid. However, that track list will have cost some silly money.
To answer your question, Epic Games is based in North Carolina, so I would expect them to cater to American tastes.
Thanks for commenting Simon.
Cheers,
Michael.
