PlayStation Digital Games Removed from Real World Stores
In a bold move and without any real explanation, Sony have issued memos to retail video game outlets such as Game Stop and Best Buy stating that they can no longer sell digital download codes of full video games.
The memo states that following April 1st 2019, full game digital downloads are no longer available to purchase from other retailers and will only be available via PlayStation Store.
It does state however that this does not affect PSN voucher codes, add-ons and DLC.
This means that while full release games won’t be available, other items such as codes for placing funds to a PSN wallet or game season passes will still be available.
Sony is encouraging people who have active pre-orders on digital versions of games with a retailer other than themselves to switch their pre-order to a physical copy as soon as possible, with Days Gone and Mortal Kombat 11 being the only exceptions.
This is sure to have a major impact on game retailers as for the past couple of years now, physical game copies have been declining, with customers preferring to order digital games instead.
Online retailers who sell digital codes exclusively may also feel this pinch as Sony have effectively taken away a large chunk of their business.
Sony has so far not commented on their reasoning and the full game digital code culling is now in effect.
Upcoming Sims 4 Update to Add Freelancer Career
More good news for Simmers today as it has been revealed that the next upcoming patch will add a Freelancer career to the popular game.
The new career will reportedly allow Sims to work from home as a freelance writer, artist or programmer.
These careers are already in the game, however they require Sims to go to a rabbit hole job location and work for a set period of time during their assigned worked days.
The Freelancer attribute to these careers effectively negates this requirement and allows Sims to do these jobs from the comfort of their home office via an agency.
The agency will provide opportunities and assignments and it is up to the player whether or not have Sims complete them and will get better paying opportunities as they gain favor with job providers.
Players will be able to do as little or as much as they like, however, since the positions are freelance Sims will not be promoted.
This new career comes as part of this month’s free update. Since late last year, Maxis have changed the way they update the game and have opted for a monthly free update with small but significant changes and free content, rather than their traditional larger quarterly updates.
This method has so far worked well and I always look forward to each month’s update.
Since starting this way of updating the game we have seen some major improvements to the game including terrain editing, new build mode items such as sliding doors, ceiling fans, laptops and Chinese New Year items.
New clothing and items have also been confirmed for this update as well as adding full keyboard and mouse support on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The April update is set to arrive on the 16th of the month.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Infected Mode Now Live
The popular Infected game mode has been made available on PlayStation 4, with Xbox One and PC support to follow soon.
The popular game mode from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and then every subsequent Call of Duty title is now available to play on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
In Infected, players known as “Survivors” must try to outrun and avoid a single player known as “The Infected” that is trying to pass along an infliction to other players.
Survivors can avoid becoming infected by either hiding from or actually killing infected players.
In other Call of Duty news, a new Alcatraz map is now available on Xbox One and PC.
Released on April 2nd for PS4 only because of an exclusivity deal, Alcatraz is now available to all.
The new Blackout map is, “set in a fog-filled island boasting a variety of environments that all lead up to the big cell-house atop the hill,”.
Due to the map’s more compact size, players are forced to think a little more tactically than they otherwise would on one of the game’s more open maps.
The corridor laden building and small room layout means that intense, close quarters fire fights are inevitable and melee combat may be a necessity in some areas.
Infected is out now for PS4 and as of yesterday Alcatraz is available for all platforms.
Monster Hunter World and The Witcher Crossover Coming to PC
Monster Hunter World’s Witcher event is set to come to PC via the Steam version of the game.
Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher has been available in Monster Hunter World for console players for some time.
The event will allows players to play as Geralt and craft his iconic armor and silver sword in a unique RPG style quest made specially for the character.
The quest requires you to hunt a magical Spriggan type monster named Leshen, hiding deep inside a dense forest.
Completion of the quest has alternate endings, special items, gestures and other in game goodies as well as bonus materials for crafting special weapons and armor.
Once live, the quest is said to be a permanent addition to the game and can be undertaken at any time however a special event week in May from the 17th to the 30th will alter the difficulty and will supply materials for crafting dual blades and more armors from The Witcher.
The crossover quest is set to go live for PC via Steam on Thursday 9th May 2019.
