Welcome to a ChartX Games news informal covering new and upcoming sequel ro Rockstar Games’ Red Dead series of AAA titles, Red Dead Redemption 2. Here we have provided categorically confirmed Red Dead Redemption 2 latest news, all of which game from various establised video games websites whose journalists were invited to special closed session while Rockstar Games demonstrated Red Dead Redemption 2.

Unless you have been living under the proverbial rock for the past few months you will undoubtedly have heard about Rockstar Games’ new title Red Dead Redemption 2, which is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on 26th October 2018, and will almost certainly be one of this year’s hottest new games.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the third title in the Read Dead series which started with 2004’s Red Dead Revolver, released for Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Microsoft’s Xbox. This was followed by Red Dead Redemption in 2010 when it was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.

Both of these Rockstar Games AAA titles were critically acclaimed, winning numerous awards, most notably for the game’s main character and protagonist John Marston.

Rumours of a follow-up title to Red Dead Redemption was met with worldwide excitement from video game fans the world over until it was officially announced by Rockstar Games in October 2016 that a new addition to the Red Dead series would coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is certainly going to be one of the hottest new games of the year so let me know if you agree by using the comments section below.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Trailers – Giving It, Bit by Bit

Since the official release announcement, Rockstar games has released titbits of information and teaser trailers.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Trailer #1 – The Tease

Trailer 1 was more of a teaser trailer which served both as an official confirmation of the game and a showcase for the title’s graphics engine.

No actual mission-based gameplay, story or characters were revealed, however the trailer did manage to infer the scale and depth of the game; wide-open plains, buffalo herding, river canoes and of course horse-back riding.

Trailer #1 gave players a glimpse of the game’s graphics engine, which seems to be very impressive indeed, with the game looking almost photorealistic. A first for a game of its kind.

However, one notable concern with trailer #1 was that the release was actually scheduled for Autumn 2017. Since then the title has suffered additional delays, much to the annoyance of fans of the Red Dead series.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Trailer #2 – The Filler

The second trailer aimed to showcase a little more of the beautiful open world of Red Dead Redemption 2, but also, to the delight of gamers, showed some actual gameplay and conveyed a piece of the game’s story.

Some mission-based gameplay was included in trailer #2 and looked to have high-end and fast-paced action set-piece gameplay, which Rockstar Games is known for; most notably the high-octane action gameplay set-pieces from Grand Theft Auto V.

Again however, this trailer stated that the game would drop in Spring 2018 which of course since then it has been delayed once more.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Trailer #3 – The Substance

Trailer #3 was a lot more substantial and aimed to show more of the story and setting, a lot more gameplay and introduced some more characters.

Information gained from the trailer confirmed that the next title in the Red Dead Series will indeed be a prequel to Red Dead Redemption, being set in 1899, and much to the series’ fan’s delight, John Marston will appear in the game, although at this point we don’t know in which capacity and to what end.

The trailer ends with a release date of 26th October 2018; we shall see.

Story and Setting – Will There be Redemption?

The narrative of Red Dead Redemption 2 is set in 1899, following the events of Red Dead Revolver and prior to Red Dead Redemption, however, although the story of the later games in the Red Dead series are linked in many ways, Red Dead Redemption 2 is not a direct pre-sequel to Red Dead Redemption.

It has been confirmed that the narrative perception comes via a new playable character named Arthur Morgan, who is a manager of sorts concerning himself with the day to day operations of Dutch’s gang.

Rockstar Games was keen to take the game in a new direction by allowing us the opportunity to see John Marston from a fresh, yet familiar perspective. The story is one of Arthur Morgan’s with John Marston and other familiar faces also being involved.

Here is the official Rockstar Games story synopsis:

America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed.

After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.”

So, as with most Rockstar Games, the story begins with something going terribly wrong and the chartacters having to lay low, resurface then go back to their old ways in order to survive or put things right.

As the new America starts to expand because of the railroad boom which connected the East coast of the United States to the West coast, the time of the outlaws and cowboys alike was starting to come to an end.

Lawmen, with new powers assigned by the Federal Government were tasked with ridding the West of the outlaw scourge by any means necesary so that the expansion could begin. For many who had lived on the fringes of society for a long time the end was drawing near, but most would not go down without a fight.

You really couldn’t make it up. The Wild West is a perfect setting for a game and its a real surprise that there aren’t many more AAA titles set around this era.

Arthur Morgan – The Guy you Hate to Love

Similar to John Marston and indeed other Rockstar Games characters, Arthur Morgan is the typical anti-hero. He’s the good guy who does bad things. He knows what needs to be done, and he does it.

The operational manager of the Van Der Linde gang, Arthur oversees the daily activities of the crew and organises pretty much everything.

It appears that Arthur and Dutch are close, almost father and son, as Dutch took Arthur under his wing when he was a young boy and the older Arthur is now an established member of the gang, and considered to be Dutch’s right-hand man.

Arthur’s character is one of loyalty to his people and he will always try to put “family” first, however it has been confirmed by Rockstar Games that the player will always be given choice. Ultimately leaving the player with the ability to define Arthur as the story progresses. However the game has been purposefully designed pristinely around causality; action and consequence.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Confirmed Features – Some Games Just Get Better and Better

Here is a quick rundown of some of the new features for the game, some of which are a first for the Red Dead series. I think you will agree that these all sound completely amazing and can go a long way towards making Red Dead Redemption 2 one of the greatest video games ever made. Please comment and tell me which features you are most excited about. From what we can find concerning Red Dead Redemption 2 latest news, all of the following information is accurate and verified.

The Gang Camp

The camp is an operational base where Arthur can interact with the gang via sharing stories and conversations etc. Some of these can lead to new objectives and missions however this feature is entirely optional. Each member is responsible for something and they will go about their daily day to day duties.

Hunting isn’t partaken just to earn the odd few dollars now in the game. In Red Dead Redemption 2 hunting is a necessary part of the game in order to provide food for the entire gang.

Dynamic Game World

Arthur can interact with everyone in the game and every character in the game can in turn interact with each other. Time and events are procedural, for example, a family may decide to start building a home; you will see that home at the start of its building process and over time if you were to go by the home you would see the home at the various stages of construction. Then eventually you would see the finished home, as long as nothing happens to them in the meantime. Railways get built and towns expand.

Wildlife Ecology

Animals all have a living system in that there is hunter and prey. All animals in the game live, eat, sleep etc. and will act according to their nature. Dead animals will also decay and attract predators and vultures and so forth.

Equine Relationship

The horse aspect of the game has been greatly improved. The horse not only provides transport but becomes a companion to Arthur. Arthur can feed and groom the horse, creating more of a bond, which in turn makes the horse more trustworthy and less unpredictable in a gunfight for example.

Train Robbery

Perhaps a little self-explanatory but yes, trains can be raided and items aboard can be looted such as gold and weapons.

Returning Features

Some returning features which are so far confirmed are:

  • Duels
  • Prostitutes
  • Dead-Eye System

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been confirmed to have an online component however Rockstar Games is keeping tight-lipped at the moment. Although no details are confirmed yet, it is a safe assumption that the online component’s paradigm will probably be very similar to Grand Theft Auto Online and feature several updates a year with new time-locked content being released each week. This week’s GTA Online updates can be viewed here.

A Game to Look Forward

It has so far been an excellent year for AAA titles and with games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 it’s only going to get better.

The latest game from Rockstar, Red Dead Redemption 2 looks set to be the best of the Red Dead series so far and aims to impress with some very exciting features, some of which have never been implemented in video games before.

Reportedly, the game is shaping up nicely, with some of the world’s gaming press having been invited to a closed door’s viewing of 45 minutes of gameplay. The press reports that not only is this title going to live up to expectations but it is going to surpass them entirely.

From a new character providing fresh perspective and the open, emergent and dynamic world to Red Dead series favourites like duels and the ‘Dead-Eye system’, I personally cannot wait to step in to the shoes of Arthur Morgan and get stuck in to this vast, rich and lively world.

Red Dead Redemption 2 ships on 26th October 2018 and is set to be one of the hottest new games of 2018.

Undeniable that rockstar games have really good quality and attention to detail in every single one of them, never was a huge fan of Red Redemption so I tried the 2nd one and its really deep in story wise, good action mechanism and really good open world that looks to be settle on a desert, sorry if I live in a proverbial rock its just that I haven’t had time with games lately but I do recognize their quality.

      Thanks Erick.

Rockstar does indeed pay attention to detail and its amazing. GTAV was brimming with little details that at first you may not event notice but they do make a big difference to a game. Some developers go out of their way not to include small details which may be one resason why they don’t sell as well as R* games.

Red Dead Redemption was definitely an enjoyable game back in the PS3 days. Man it’s crazy that it has been almost a decade since Redemption initially was released. Thank you Mike for the detailed information, I will be keeping my eyes on the updates that will be coming for this game in the future.

      You’re welcome Byrd.

It actually has been 10 years since Red Dead Redmption. Red Dead Redemption 2 has been in development for 8 years. Sounds like a long time but isn’t uncommon these days for high quality AAA titles.

Keep checking back as we will be launching a Red Dead Redemption latest news exclusive page very soon.
