Survival Horror, Epic New IP and Hotly Anticipated Sequels…
Well, now that 2018 is over and 2019 is finally here, at ChartX Games I have compiled a list of (ten of what I believe are) the best upcoming PS4 Games of 2019. This is Part 1 of that list, showcasing five of the best titles for the first quarter of the year:
- Resident Evil 2 (Remaster)
- Dead or Alive 6
- Devil May Cry 5
- Days Gone
2018 was a massive year for gaming, with the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to name a few of the year’s hit AAA titles, all of which have helped push sales of Sony’s PlayStation towards legendary proportions while also contributing to the UK video games industry now being worth more in sales than movies and music combined .
The PlayStation 4 had a great year for new IP in 2018 and 2019 looks set to have more of the same, with some great new sequels and remakes thrown in to the mix.
Please note that the order of the list does not denote any bias and the titles are simply ordered by release date.
Resident Evil 2 – Survival Horror Returns
Riding on the back of the hugely successful remaster of legendary horror title Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 has now become very highly anticipated, and, if the latest trailer is anything to go by, we won’t be disappointed.
Following a viral outbreak in Raccoon City, Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy must work together to survive the horror and stop it from reaching the outside.
Developed by Capcom using the RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 makes a shattering comeback.

Dead or Alive 6 – Bikini Combat at It’s Best
Current generation platforms are in for a slick new contender to the combat genre and promises more of the same action-focused fighting, now with less bouncy boobs!
Set immediately after the events of Dead or Alive 5, DoA 6 sees a multi-narrative story with crossing story arcs in an epic saga rarely seen in a AAA combat title.
Developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo, Dead or Alive 6 looks to be a stunning comeback for the series.

Anthem – A Whole New World
Perhaps one of the most interesting IPs to come along in a while, Anthem is on course to either be one of the greatest games ever, or a complete failure depending on whether the developers can pull off this very ambitious game.
In a world ravaged by now absent Gods, human survivors struggle to defend themselves against colossal monsters and the savage environment itself.
Developed by BioWare and published by game industry powerhouse Electronic Arts, Anthem is among the first shared open-world action/adventure titles with a truly immersive gaming environment.

Devil May Cry 5 – Hack and Slash Get’s Sexy
Another massive series for Capcom, hack and slash king Devil May Cry 5 is set to return in 2019 to battle a new horror and has been slated to be the DMC title fans have been waiting for.
As a Demon Tree grips Red Grave City, it is up to Nero along with his mechanical “Devil Breaker” arms to take on the hordes of horrific beasts and Demons alike such as Empusa and Goliath.
Both developed and published by Capcom, DMC 5 is also powered by Capcom’s RE Engine (developed for Resident Evil 7) promising to provide the most realistic looking Devil May Cry environments yet with stunning visuals and a world class physics system as well as a true DMC immersion experience from well-known game director Hideako Itsuno.

Days Gone – The Oregon Trail, But Not as You Know It
Another survival horror thrown in to the mix and the first PlayStation exclusive on the list, Days Gone is the best post-apocalyptic, zombie action we are likely to get, this side of being an extra in The Walking Dead.
As most of the world’s population has become a zombie-like “Freaker” following a massive global pandemic of biblical proportions, former Bounty Hunter Deacon St. John is doing his best to survive in this now hell-hole of a world.
Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and developed by SIE Bend Studio, the world of Days Gone has an amazingly ambitious scope and scale, utilizing the Unreal Engine 4 with the power of PlayStation 4 with world-class art and game direction, Days Gone promises to be one of the most immersive game worlds yet created.

That’s The First Quarter Taken Care Of
The coming months in the first quarter of 2019 are looking pretty solid in terms of AAA titles to look forward to with something for just about everyone when you include:
- Horror; Resident Evil 2, Days Gone
- Action; Devil May Cry 5, Anthem
- Combat; Dead or Alive 6
Obviously there are more games than this that will be released and honorable mentions include:
- The Walking Dead: The Final Season
- Kingdom Hearts 3
- Far Cry 5: New Dawn DLC
Resident Evil 2 should live up to standard if the remake of Resident Evil is anything to go by, which has been hugely successful for Capcom, and should whet your appetite for Days Gone, which is promising to be a nice supplement to the zombie apocalypse theme.
But if some third-person action and open world exploration is more your thing then DMC 5 and Anthem should provide you with two solid choices. You can go with Devil May Cry 5 to satisfy those quick-play hack and slash action sequence urges to relieve some stress and get some great eye candy while doing it (all the while rocking out to some thrash metal) or you for a more immersive experience you could take a sci-fi detour to another world and explore the multi-faceted shared experiences of ambitious new IP Anthem from Electronic Arts.
Then while you are coming down from Injustice 2 yet eagerly awaiting Mortal Kombat 11, Dead or Alive 6 should provide you with some combat sustenance with a new story, fighters and excellent new game mechanics, while shoving some overly-sexualized characters in your face.
Let me know what you think of this list and I may consider editing it or adding some new games to the article.
Thanks for reading and look out for Part 2 of this list of the best upcoming PS4 games of 2019, which will be coming your way in the coming months.
