Black Ops 4

Well it wouldn’t be Christmas without a new Call of Duty would it? Black Ops 4, while taking a major departure from a traditional Call of Duty title has none the less been one of this year’s best-selling titles.

Doing away with a traditional story campaign was a risky move by Treyarch however, seemingly taking inspiration from Fortnite, the move has paid off massively for the game. Featuring re-worked multiplayer modes only such as traditional multiplayer, zombies where players have to kill undead hordes and Black Out mode, the game’s “Battle Royale” based system.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set somewhere between Black Ops 2 and 3 and features familiar characters from previous Black Ops titles such as Nomad, Torque and Ajax known as “Specialists” who can be utilized by the game’s upgraded systems in terms of refined game mechanics and all new physics across multiple maps including the Titanic and Alcatraz.

Note: Recommended for 14 years old and over although the game is 17. (More Info).

An Overview

I know there are many, many more game titles out there and far more than I could possibly cover, even across multiple posts.

However, these are my personal recommendations based upon my experiences with these game and how I enjoyed them, and as a gamer, I know other gamers will too from the chaotic and silly fun of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and The Sims 4: Get Famous to the serious open-world adventures from Marvel’s Spider-Man and Red Dead Redemption II, these are the best of the best (in my opinion) that 2018 has so far offered.

At a quick glance:

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Child friendly
  • Red Dead Redemption II: Mature teens and adults
  • Marvels Spider-Man: Teens and adults
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4: Teens and adults
  • The Sims 4: Get Famous: Child friendly

This list of game is bound to be controversial and I know that many of you will undoubtedly have more games in mind that I could have covered. Please comment in the section below to let me know your thoughts and I will consider adding to this list.

Thanks for reading and happy Christmas,
Michael.

    Hi Michael,

I was just looking online for the best video games for Christmas 2018 and found your post. Nice work Michael.

I need something or a fee games my younger siblings. I haven’t a clue about all this stuff as I don’t play any games at all. They are just too advanced for me now. I miss the simple one dimensional games of Mortal Combat, Tekken, Street Fighter etc.

I see you have left a few links there and so now I am off to check out their prices. Thanks Michael 🙂 .

Thanks for the great comments Phil.

Games are a little advanced these days and you need to keep up with them as the technology moves so quickly.

You may be in luck though Phil as retro gaming has made a return this year and I predict it will be huge in 2019 with the return of NES, SNES, Mega Drive and PS Classic.

      Thanks,
      Michael.

    Michael,
My son does enjoy the Call to Duty series on his X-Box one. He does play Fortnite on his desktop, this might be something that I could add for him under the tree.
Thanks for the suggestion. I would rather him play on his X-Box, as it is upstairs so that I can here what is going on when he is playing an who he is interacting with.

      Thanks for commenting John.

Call of Duty is a great game to keep kids entertained as the social aspect of it seem quite addictive (to people with friends :D) and teens can’t seem to get enough.

Fortnite has just released Season 7 is he is interested: https://chartxgames.com/kill-the-storm-king-in-fortnite-season-7-and-get-a-free-exclusive-pin.

If he completes the Storm King mission before 1st January 2019 he will receive a free and exclusive Fortnite Storm King pin badge.

      Thanks,
      Michael.

Michael, I love how you started out with “get in the commercial Spirit” because I have the same attitude about this issue. But I do disagree that I am stretching my pockets. I actually think I’m depressing it.

I’ve been a fan of Nintendo games since NES in the mid 80s and I have come a long way with Link and Mario in the decades that follow but I’m surprised to see that Nintendo has come out with yet another Mario game.

Maybe they can’t afford a graphic artist to design a new character. I will admit though, the Nintendo cast of characters sure are capable of doing lots of things!

So this year, I have a teenager who will become an adult this coming May and I think I am going to finally break down and buy him a game for his XBOX One. I’ve seen him playing games that look like these games. I am certain he’s playing some version of Call of Duty, but I have never heard of Red Dead Redemption.

Sounds like it would have been the name of a WWF wrestling match Between Nikita Koloff and Sgt. Slaughter.

But seriously… what is your opinion of the Redemption series? Do you recommend it?

    Thanks for the advice!

Hi John, thanks for the great comments.

First, yes, it does seem like Nintendo release a lot of Mario stuff but it is their flaghsip title and character. I’m not personally a big fan of these types of game but kids and adults alike love them, and you can’t really go wrong if you want a quick burst of fun.

Secondly, on the subject of your son; if you buy him Red Dead Redemption 2, he will love you forever. 😀 This is one of the most groundbreaking games ever created with a rich story line, in-depth characters, massive open-world to explore and survive in as well as an excellent online version which he can play with his friends. I cannot recommend this game more. Please see my RDR2 article here:

      https://chartxgames.com/red-dead-redemption-2-sets-a-new-standard-for-gaming-narratives

There are many more game to explore on my site and indeed at CD Keys.

I do hope you find a great gift for your son.

      Thank you,
      Michael.

Great post! I can’t wait to get my hands on Sims 4: Get Famous. I don’t own all of the EP’s, GP’s and SP’s, but one day I plan to. It is such a great game and overall awesome experience.

The new COD looks interesting as well. I got my husband Black Ops 3 a few years ago. He loved it. Although he’s not into video games all that much anymore, I’ll mention the new COD to him and see if he wants to buy it.

    Thanks for sharing!

Hi Britney and thanks for the great comments.

The Sims 4: Get Famous is absolutely hilarious.

If you are a regular reader on my site or if you stalk my Facebook profile then you will know that I am a huge fan of The Sims series.

The great thing about Get Famous is that you can benefit more than usual even if you don’t have the other EP’s as it has been cleverly designed for the mechanics to integrate with any EP’s you already have. Get Famous is probably the richest EP for The Sims 4 yet and you don’t need The Sims 4: Get To Work for the new Actor “Active Career” to work either.

For your husband; he may like Black Ops 4 but I would ask him first since for this version they have foregone a single-player campaign story mode and opted for the game to be completely multi-player, something which has been very controversial (although not detrimental) and something which I myself completely disagree with.

I hope I helped in some way and I hope you find what you are looking for.

      Thanks,
      Michael.
