Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is the 13th installment of the massively popular FPS series.

Fighting in the future, the game takes place at an unspecified time in humanity’s history on Earth and in space, taking players on an epic journey across the Solar System.

Playing as Nick Reyes, take the fight to the corrupt Settlement Defense Force across space, stopping at distant planets, satellites and asteroids.

In addition to the rich campaign story mode, there are 2 other game modes to play, including co-op Zombies!

Using hundreds of weapons, both traditional and futuristic, battle it out with up to 17 other players across unique and richly detailed maps.

  • Frost; a research facility on Europa.
  • Terminal; a Lunar space port.
  • Frontier; a space station in orbit of Neptune.
  • Throwback; Americana themed area of a torus shaped space station.
  • Breakout; an Earth based max security prison atop an icy mountain.

These highly visualized and artistically stunning maps aren’t just a nice piece of eye candy.

Each map has been designed with gameplay in mind, utilizing each map’s unique features for the ultimate multiplayer combat engagement.

Take advantage of the corners and of Frost’s research station for example, in order to get the drop on your enemies. Or utilize the verticality of the structure to get a good FOV on adversary teams.

Combat Rigs

A new take on the usual class system, Combat Rigs are powerful tactical combat suits that can be heavily customized by the player to suit their style of play.

  • Warfighter; assault style support role.
  • FTL; prototype rig designed for the quick “run and gun” fighter.
  • Merc; heavy weapons suppression fire.
  • Phantom; long range, stealth sniper.
  • Stryker; tactical support role.
  • Synaptic; close quarters combat support drone.

Each of these powerful rigs has 3 specialized weapons or abilities and 3 traits that suit their function.

For example the Phantom rig has Active Camouflage ability and Heightened Senses trait, while the Stryker rig has a Micro Turret and the Hardened trait.

Though I am a big fan of the Call of Duty series of games I still have a slight bad taste in my mouth when it comes to the company Infinity Ward for what they did to Sledgehammer Games during the development of CoD: Modern Warfare 3. You see, I used to be in the video game industry and Glen Schofield, one of the Co-Founders at Sledgehammer is a friend and former co-worker of mine. I know how industry politics work.

But that incident took place and was later resolved when both companies came together and finished the game. Then Sledgehammer went on to develop on their own, CoD: Advanced Warfare and CoD: WWII. I find it sort of interesting how Infinite Warfare sounds a bit like Infinity Ward. Perhaps a slick way to further their brand. But either way I will say that this version of CoD looks to be a great action game. Thanks for the review.

      Hi Robert, thanks for commenting.

It is a shame that the games industry has made that (inevitable) shift towards being a bit more political now, probably because of the vast amounts of money and power that developer can wield.

I also wondered about the title, being strangely similar to Infinity Ward. Some developers do like to think they are being clever.
