Sony has confirmed that The Sims 4 free game is to be added to February’s line up of titles for current subscribers of Playstation Plus.

The news comes as EA has also announced that the massively popular life simulator has surpassed 20 million individual users.

The Sims has been a huge series for Electronic Arts and developer Maxis since it first launched in 2000.

Originally a spin-off title of the classic city-building game Sim City, The Sims has now become iconic in its own right.

Currently on its fourth generation, The Sims has been a staple game for Electronic Arts and a huge moneymaker thanks to its multiple expansions and DLCs.

The Sims 4 was initially released for PC in 2014 but was then later released for current generation consoles in 2017.

There are no gameplay differences between PC and console versions of the game, however the Community sharing feature and Sims 4 custom content are not available for consoles.

Sims 4 custom content is a popular feature that many PC and Mac users enjoy.

Because of the game’s accessibility, it is possible, and really quite easy for anyone to create their own items for the game using third-party software.

Such items include skin tones, hair, tattoos, clothing and furniture as well as extended game features known as mods.

As well as being an extremely fun life simulator game that allows players to guide Sims through their lives, The Sims also has a very comprehensive architecture feature.

The impressive building feature of the game has allowed players to build pretty much anything, from simple dwellings to palaces, mansions and even a Hobbit Village.

A Sims generation of games typically has a long life cycle due to the very well implemented Expansion Packs which always add a lot more features to the game.

These Expansion Packs usually focus on a particular theme and include things such as pets, vacations, fame and active careers.

Other packs for The Sims are also released, known as Stuff Packs, which typically add clothing and furniture.

The more recent Game Packs were introduced with The Sims 4 and these usually extend gameplay a little further while adding some more items.

Game Packs can best be thought of as somewhere between a Stuff Pack and an Expansion Pack.

A good example of a Sims 4 Game Pack would be the recently released Sims 4: Tiny Living, which centers around building and living in small homes.

This Game Pack adds a lot of items focused on saving space and challenges builders to keep a home as small as possible while maximizing floor space.

Hey Michael, I have always loved simulation games. It’s one of my favorite genres. I have used the earlier versions of the Sims and it’s addicting. I am glad I stumbled onto your post about the Sims4 free game coming to PS Plus. I have a subscription, so I’ll be adding this to my list.

My wife won’t be happy that I am getting involved with another addictive game again, because I usually obsess when I play them. When I had Sim City, my brother-in-law and I killed an entire weekend over that game.

    Thanks for your post.

      Hi James.

      The Sims is addictive.

I started with the original in 2000 and I still play it obsessively now with Sims 4.

      Happy Simming.

      Cheers,
      Michael.
