How do Character Names work in Lost Ark?
When you fire up Lost Ark for the first time, you are asked to choose your preferred server and then create your very first character. Part of the character creation process is picking and assigning a name to your character using a string of characters consisting of letters, numbers, and select symbols.
Character Names in Lost Ark cannot have the following:
- Special Characters
- In-game unique names and terms
- Expletives
- Abnormally repeated characters and words
- Developer of GM impersonations
You can assign names using up to 16 characters. However, you cannot use names that are already used by other players on the same server.
How to Change Character Name
You can change your characters’ names in Lost Ark by using a Name Change Ticket. To do this:
- Launch Lost Ark.
- Choose the server of the character you want to change the name.
- Select the character.
- Click on the Change Name button in the bottom right corner of the character select menu.
- You will receive a prompt asking you to purchase a Name Change Ticket. Accept and purchase the ticket if you don’t have one already.
You’ll spend 1,500 Royal Crystals to change one character’s name in Lost Ark, making one of the more expensive post-character-creation changes in the game. Nevertheless, it’s great that Smilegate and Amazon Games give you the option to change your character’s name in-game.
How long does it take for names to become available in Lost Ark?
As a general rule, when characters Level 10 or below are deleted, the names used for those characters will become available immediately, allowing you to reuse the name on a different character right away.
On the other hand, names of deleted characters that were Level 11 or above will take around 60 days before they become available for use on the same server.
Is a name change worth it?
Names don’t add anything tangible to your Lost Ark gameplay and are simply a display item used to differentiate your character from other characters in the game. Whether a name change is worth it or not depends on how much money you’re willing to spend to change how your character looks in Lost Ark.
Just keep in mind that a Name Change Ticket costs 1,500 Royal Crystals or around $15.00, making it a relatively expensive in-game item. The Name Change Ticket is single-use only as well, which means you’ll have to purchase another Name Change Ticket if you want to change your character’s name a second time.
Conclusion
If you’ve been wanting to change your character name for a while in Lost Ark, you can easily do so by purchasing a Name Change Ticket for 1,500 Royal Crystals. Whether the name change’s cost is worth it or not depends on how badly you want to get rid of your character’s current name. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to wait up to 60 days to use a previous character name from a deleted Level 11 or greater character.
