What does the Raid Captain Engraving do?
Raid Captain is a Combat Engraving that increases Outgoing Damage based on a percentage of your character’s Move Speed bonus percentage. Like most Combat Engravings in Lost Ark, Raid Captain has three different Levels, where each level provides increasingly higher bonuses.
At Level 1, Raid Captain increases Outgoing Damage by +10% of your character’s basic Move Speed bonus percentage. That number grows to +22% at Level 2 and +45% at Level 3.
How to Get the Raid Captain Engraving
You can get the Raid Captain Engraving for your character in three ways – Engraving Recipes, Accessories, or Ability Stones.
Engraving Recipes
You can unlock the Raid Captain Combat Engraving by acquiring and using x20 Raid Captain Engraving Recipe (Uncommon). After unlocking the Raid Captain Engraving, you need to use x20 Raid Captain Engraving Recipe (Rare) to activate the Raid Captain Engraving’s Level 1 effect.
Levels 2 and 3 can be unlocked by reading x20 Raid Captain Engraving Recipe (Epic) and x20 Raid Captain Engraving Recipe (Legendary), respectively.
Accessories
Accessories are another way to unlock the Raid Captain Engraving in Lost Ark. Accessories provide the Engraving Points you need to unlock the Raid Captain Engraving.
You can get 3 Engraving points for each of your two Earrings, 3 for each of your two Rings, and another 3 Engraving Points for Amulets.
Ability Stones
You can also equip up to 1 Ability Stone to gain Engraving Points. However, you will need increasingly rare Ability Stones to gain enough Engraving Points to unlock the Raid Captain Engraving.
Rare Ability Stones give +6 Engraving Points, while Epic Ability Stones give +8 Engraving Points. Legendary and Artifact Ability Stones add +9 and +10 Engraving Points, respectively.
How to Use the Raid Captain Engraving
The Raid Captain Engraving provides a passive Outgoing Damage bonus based on any bonus Move Speed your character gains in battle. The effect is passive, so you only have to focus on activating whatever skill provides bonus Move Speed to activate the Raid Captain Engraving’s bonuses.
It is worth noting that you only receive bonus Outgoing Damage when your character gains Move Speed beyond the base 100%. Don’t be fooled by the Engraving’s description; even though the Level 3 Engraving description says it gives a +45% bonus Outgoing Damage buff, that buff is capped at 18% bonus damage because the bonus damage you receive is a percentage of your character’s Move Speed bonus percentage and not a flat percentage increase based on your character’s DPS.
Since the max Move Speed caps out at 140% in Lost Ark, you only get a maximum of 18% bonus Outgoing Damage from Raid Captain at Level 3 because 45% of 40% (bonus Move Speed over the base 100%) is 18%.
Is Raid Captain a good Engraving?
The Raid Captain Engraving is not a very good Engraving in Lost Ark. The bonus Outgoing Damage it provides is dependent on the amount of bonus Move Speed your character can churn out, making it a very unreliable Combat Engraving.
In addition, Move Speed maxes out at 140% in Lost Ark in the current patch, which means Raid Captain is also capped at 18% max Outgoing Damage bonus at Level 3.
Conclusion
Raid Captain is a Move Speed-dependent Combat Engraving that works very well for classes that possess high mobility. You can unlock this Combat Engraving like you would with any other Engraving in Lost Ark through Engraving Books, Accessories, or Ability Stones.
