What are Alt Characters?
Alt is an abbreviated term for the word alternate in Lost Ark. The term alt is mainly used to label characters other than your first and primary character in the game.
You are allowed to make more than one character per server in Lost Ark. By default, you can create up to 6 characters in the game – 1 main character and 5 alts.
Alts are crucial for maxing out everything the game has to offer in terms of rewards. Some items in Lost Ark are server-wide, which means characters within the same Roster can use items acquired by other characters from the same Roster. Essentially, you can use alts to farm other server-wide items while you focus on other content with your main character.
How Alts Work
As we alluded to in the previous section, Alts are typically used to farm server-wide upgrade materials for your main character. These materials include:
- Skill Point Potions
- Engravings
- Leapstones
- Harmony Shards
- Honing Materials
- Silver
- Gold
- Cards
One of the main progression limitations in Lost Ark is the daily participation limit found in many endgame content in the game. Players are typically limited in the amount of upgrade materials they can collect per character since characters can only participate in these events once per day or once per week.
By creating alts that can farm the same event, you essentially open up a secondary stream for valuable upgrade materials, potentially doubling the amount of loot you can get on the same server.
How to Use Alts Effectively in Lost Ark
Alts are best used to progress in Una’s Tasks and for collecting server-wide upgrade materials. As such, you’ll want to focus on Una’s Tasks, Chaos Dungeons, and Abyssal Dungeons, as these events give out valuable rewards that can be used by your main character.

Una’s Tasks
Una’s Tasks is one of the more important activities you’ll want to complete on your alt. While you’re limited to just three Una’s Tasks daily per character, you can use your alts to complete other Una’s Tasks.
Unfortunately, you cannot use an alt to increase progress or Reputation on the same Una’s Task, as completing a Una’s Task only gives 20 Reputation Points, regardless of the character you use to complete it.

Some of the rewards you can get from endgame activities are tradeable, and you can sell these materials for Gold at the Auction House. Farm and complete as many activities as you can from the list below.

Is one alt enough?
The number of alts you create depends on how much playtime you have and your ability to manage and play your main character alongside multiple other alts. If you’re not in a hurry to max out your main character, it might not be worth creating an alt at all.
However, if you’re looking to farm as many upgrade materials in as little time as possible, creating one alt and using that to farm endgame activities such as Una’s Tasks, Chaos Dungeons, and Guardian Raids will go a long way in supercharging your main character’s progress.
